POLICE have arrested two people after finding cannabis plants at a property.

Officers discovered what they believe are marijuana plants at the site, in Pershore Road, Evesham, at around 9am. 

Police arrested a 45-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, both from Evesham, on suspicion of cannabis offences.

It is thought up to 10 police vehicles were called to the scene.

One woman, who lives in Hampton, said: “Lots of police cars and trucks were all lined up on the pavement.

“There were about four riot vans and five to six police cars. Traffic was all backed up into town but it was moving.”

A police spokesman said: "Officers were making enquiries in the area when they became suspicious about potential drugs at a property."

The two arrested individuals are being held in police custody.

Officers reportedly carried out traffic control in Pershore Road.

West Mercia Police were not able to provide any more information as officers are still examining the property.

UPDATE (January 25 - 1.45pm): The police have clarified that the individuals were arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, producing cannabis and abstracting electricity.

The pair have been released on police bail until Tuesday, March 7.
