A 46-year-old man has been charged with four offences after a policeman was knocked over while trying to stop a car in Evesham on Tuesday.

Michael Park of Evesham Road, Cleeve Prior, is charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to PC Paul Buffery, driving whilst disqualified, driving without Insurance and causing injury to PC Buffery and failing to stop after a road accident.

Park appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court today.

He entered no pleas to the offences and was remanded in custody to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Monday, March 6.

A silver Honda Estate car hit PC Buffery when he tried to stop the driver for motoring offences outside Evesham Library.

He was on foot at the junction of Chapel Street and Oat Street, in Evesham.

PC Buffery, the safer neighbourhood officer for Evesham Town North and thought to be in his 30s, was hit in the shin and fell, also injuring his shoulder.

An ambulance was called to the scene at 1.17pm and he was taken to the minor injuries unit at Evesham Hospital with injuries to his leg and head.

He was discharged on the same day and West Mercia Police has said he is now recovering at home.

A car was later found in Longford Close in Bidford-upon-Avon.

A 49 year- old woman from Evesham has been arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and has been released on police bail until Wednesday, February 22.
