CARNIVAL organisers have revealed the theme for this year's event in Pershore.

The theme for the 2017 festival will be 'World of Music', and plenty of musical acts have already been lined up to play.

The carnival is set to take place over the Spring Bank Holiday, Monday, May 29, and will feature a host of entertainment, including a parade and stalls in Abbey Park.

Colin Shepherd, chairman of Pershore Carnival, said: "The committee recognise that carnival is close to Pershore people's hearts and have been working very hard to make this year's carnival bigger and better than ever.

"A day for Pershore people - by the people of Pershore.

"We have some fantastic musicians lined up to take part in the procession – it's going to be lively!"

And there is still time to get involved with the procession, which will wind its colourful way through Pershore.

Lizz Dale, procession manager, said: "It’s not too late to enter a float. We’re really keen to encourage people to enter the smaller floats – the car and trailer type or walking processions this year as they’re a great way for smaller groups to join in."

Ahead of the big day, there will be an event to crown this year's carnival royalty.

The event, held at the Riverside Youth Centre, will take place on Sunday, February 26, between 2pm and 4pm.

Youngsters aged between nine and 12 can audition for the role of king and queen, while anyone aged six to eight can try out for the role of prince and princess.

The carnival organisers say all entries must be able to demonstrate a "winning smile" and a "regal wave".

The winning four will receive a royal pamper session on the morning of carnival, sponsored by The Hair End Pershore.

Application forms for carnival royalty will be available through schools, from Pershore Town Hall and on the Pershore Carnival website: pershorecarnival.co.uk

Entries will be judged by the Mayor of Pershore, Councillor Bob Gillmor.
