A BIG-hearted teenager is set to hold a charity fitness event to raise cash for a trip to help poor communities in southeast Asia.

Chloe Barnett, a student at Prince Henry's High School in Evesham, will hold her Charity FitMix event this Saturday, February 25, at Evesham Leisure Centre, in Abbey Road.

The event, which takes place between 3pm and 5pm, is a fun exercise class led by Donna Tresigne-Pires and Tess Gaine.

All the money raised will be split between funding Chloe's World Challenge trip to Cambodia and Laos this summer, and the charity Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The 16-year-old needs to raise £4,300 to fund the trip, during which she will work with communities to help improve the quality of life.

"I wanted to get involved with this because I really wanted to help less fortunate families who are living with poor quality of life and less fortunate than myself," she said.

"I also saw opportunities for me to develop my own confidence, team building and give me more independence in taking control of everything involved with our expedition including travel in country, food, accommodation and planning our routes across the beautiful countries of Cambodia and Laos."

The A Level student will also take on a sponsored walk across the Malverns this April to raise money.

Proud mum, Sharon Barnett said: "I am so so proud that Chloe wanted to get involved with something like this knowing it will bring her some personal challenges, with the length of time away from home but also the cultural and environmental differences she will experience.

"I am particularly pleased that she wants to give up her own time in the summer holiday during a period of her education – which is known to be very challenging – to help others, and get the first hand experience of how people live in third world countries."

Sharon Keen, marketing manager at Wychavon Leisure, said: "It's great to see young people raising funds for a number of charities and by Rivers donating the sports hall to hold the event and assisting Chloe to advertise the Fitmix Challenge allowing all funds raised to be donated to these worthwhile charities."

Tickets are £10 on the door, and everyone is welcome to attend the event.
