PUPILS from St Egwin’s Middle School in Evesham have had a peek behind the scenes at one of the area’s biggest developments – the multi-million pound Wood Norton Care Village.

They were hosted by Worcestershire’s Phil Eves – the inspiration behind the RHS Spring Festival annual schools gardening competition at the Three Counties Agricultural Showground in Malvern.

Mr Eves, who works for the project's builders, BAM Construction, showed the year 6 pupils a video highlighting the technical careers available in the construction industry.

The pupils took part in an interactive safety competition 'students misfortunes' and were then issued with personal protective equipment and given a guided tour of the new development, where they could view the site from a temporary viewing platform.

Mr Eves said: “This is a major scheme. There are currently around 100 people working here and trades such as ground works, steel erection, carpentry and bricklaying going on at the moment. It’s a great insight into the work we do and the wide range of skills we have all in a single location. It’s a very rewarding career and for both genders too.”

The care village is expected to be completed in September 2018.
