MONEY was stolen from an Evesham man's home during a distraction theft.

A man claiming to be from the Salvation Army knocked on the door of a property in The Hodges, between 11.30am and noon on Monday, March 24.

The man said he was fitting burglary alarms and after being quite insistent, the victim allowed him into the property.

After looking around the property he said it would cost £200 to fit alarms, before he left.

The following morning the victim discovered an envelope in a draw, which contained money, had gone missing.

The suspect is described as a white man with a Birmingham accent, aged in his late 30s, with dark coloured hair. He was wearing a high visibility jacket, a grey woolly hat and jeans.

Police, investigating the theft, are warning others to be vigilant to cold callers.

Police advice includes not to make a quick decision on a doorstep, to only deal with genuine firms - checking their telephone number and address - and not to allow uninvited callers into the home.
