A DAUGHTER has praised her mother who received a VIP Mother's Day experience as part of a local pub competition.

The Norton Grange, in Norton, launched the contest to receive VIP treatment last month as part of its refurbishment and re-launch activity.

Anne White, aged 70, was chosen by the Mayor of Evesham from entries to the Search for a Star Mum competition when he re-launched the pub.

Ms White was nominated by her daughter Louise Taylor, who said her mum had supported her with her epilepsy when she was diagnosed aged five.

Ms Taylor said: "This condition is commonplace now, but then there was very little known of the condition.

"Following my diagnosis, my mother spent weeks at my bedside sleeping at the Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, only coming home for a day or two before driving back to my side.

"After I was discharged, she would monitor my condition and drive me back and forth to Oxford whenever needed.

"The problems at times caused us to fight and to cry, but she was there for me throughout, from the age of five until I was finally well enough to leave home in my late 20s. and live a normal life."

"I thought this competition was a great opportunity to tell her, and everyone else, just how wonderful a person she is, and I am delighted that the Mayor and the Marston’s team agreed with me."

Trevor Walter, who manages the pub with his wife Helen, said: "We were inundated with entries for this competition and it was so difficult to choose a winner from so many fantastic mums.

“Anne is a truly remarkable woman, it is natural for any mum to lavish care on their children but Louise’s childhood was particularly difficult and as she said, for Anne to act as carer and mum throughout, while still playing a key part in the local community, is admirable.

"We were delighted to offer her the VIP treatment on Mother’s day, and look forward to meeting her family next month."

Ms White added: 'It was such a surprise to find out Louise had entered me, and even more so that I'd won.

"I feel very proud to have been singled out, though as far as I'm concerned, I didn't do anything extraordinary.

"But it's lovely to be singled out like this and I felt thoroughly spoiled by Trevor and Helen."

She was awarded a bouquet and a Mother’s day meal, and will receive four meals for herself and three guests throughout April.
