A BOOK of poems about kindness was launched at a Pershore school event dedicated to the memory of a former pupil.

Parents and students went to Pershore High School for the launch of Ten Poems of Kindness, an anthology allied to the Felix Campaign of Kindness.

The campaign was started by the mother of teenager Felix Alexander who died, aged 17, after taking his own life a year ago.

His mum Lucy wrote an open letter detailing the years of online bullying he had endured and calling on people to be kind to one another.

The evening began with an introduction by Di Slaney, director at publishers, Candlestick Press.

Scottish Poet Laureate Jackie Kay, spoke about her involvement with the book and read her own poem Kinder, and Kindness by Yusef Komunyakaa, later performing Dear Felix, a poem she wrote to the schoolboy.

Poet Jonathan Davidson read further poems and then handed over to Pershore High School sixth form student, Ella Spencer, who read ‘Thirteen’ by Kate Tempest.

Lucy Alexander then spoke on behalf of the family about ‘Felix’s Campaign of Kindness’.

Students Ella Spencer, Rebecca Hodgins and Bryony Meek performed ‘Waves’ as they had at an earlier memorial service for Felix.

The event took place at the school library on Wednesday, April 26.
