OFFENSIVE graffiti was sprayed over a popular park for the second time in the last month.

Wychavon District Council are seeking witnesses over the vandalism in Abbey Park, Pershore on picnic benches and other surfaces.

It was sprayed near the play park last week as well as the water play control cabinet and on the sides of the skate park.

The vandalism follows a foul incident in the Easter holidays, where human excrement and smashed glass was left in the park, leaving grounds staff forced to clean up.

Lynn Stevens, senior parks and greenspace officer, at Wychavon District Council said: "We had only just cleaned these benches and the same has happened again and worse as its now all over the paving and skate park.

"Every time this happens it costs us money to clear - money that could be better spent on investing in the parks. "We’re so proud of our open space, parks and play areas and it’s so depressing when people don’t respect public areas.

"We have reported these incidents to the police and asked them to keep an extra watch on the area.

"We have also asked our CCTV team to keep an extra special eye on this area and they will pass any information they find straight to the police.

"We will do all we can to stop this happening again and we will take action where we have the evidence. Anyone with any information should ring 101 and pass it to the police.”

It is estimated that the clean up costs for this will be around £300 for the three picnic tables and considerable additional sums for the paving, control box and skate park clean ups.
