RESIDENTS have taken to social media to vent their frustration with traffic 'nightmare.'

Evesham locals have criticised congestion in the town, which they believe has increased since the Old Brewery Car Park was closed to make way for a new Waitrose.

Julie Dennick, said on Facebook: "It's a nightmare especially with shutting off half of Cheltenham road. Took me 50 minutes to get from Sedgeberrow to home in the town."

Sarah Grinnell added: "Apparently, "there is not a traffic problem, in Evesham" according a road survey done, that was before brewery car park closed."

John Dyer said: "There's been a traffic problem for a long while but nothing gets done about it, Evesham is a joke."

Other residents hit back however, claiming that the congestion was worth it for the opportunity to have a new Waitrose.

Rosalind Sutton said: "I don't like Aldi or Lidl, looking forward to Waitrose, so that is one Evesham person who is happy."

Mark Turpitt added: "This is just another pointless post that involves Waitrose, traffic and what ever other negative points about Evesham, well folks it's happening so no point bleating.

"Waitrose I think will be ace,the traffic is not ideal but no worse than a lot of other towns/cities in this country, let's embrace the fact Evesham is a lovely place to live and is on the up."

Vic Allison, deputy managing director at Wychavon said: “We’re sorry that people have had increased difficulties with traffic.

"We do feel that the level of investment in Waitrose, to create jobs and regenerate Evesham will make it worth some pain, although we do appreciate the everyday inconvenience can be extremely annoying.

"Sadly, we were unable to keep the car park open during these works as it would not be safe to the public.

"We will keep a close eye on traffic issues and discuss with partners what other options there might be regarding management."

A spokesman for Wychavon District Council added that a number of roadworks and road closures may be contributing to the problems.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We always attempt to manage road works in a way that will minimise disruption and we will be closely monitoring the situation in Evesham."
