FRIENDS and family of a nine-year-old schoolgirl who has been left partially paralysed after suffering a stroke are raising money to support her recovery.

Evie Wu, a pupil at Badsey First School, near Evesham, was rushed to Worcestershire Royal after collapsing during a family outing at West Midlands Safari Park on Monday, June 19.

Evie had complained to her mother, Suzy, that her head hurt and later collapsed in her father, Kin Chung's, arms.

The cause of the stroke is currently unknown.

The stroke has caused paralysis down the right side of Evie's body and she will need speech therapy.

Family friend Neil Double, whose daughter Eloise Ferris is best friends with Evie, set up a Just Giving page to help raise funds to aid the youngster’s recovery.

Mr Double described Evie as the "life and soul" of the party during his daughter Eloise’s ninth birthday celebrations on Saturday, June 17.

He said: "Evie is such a bubbly character and a beautiful kind-hearted little girl."

Posting on the fundraising page, he said: "We pray that this money raised will not be required directly by Evie and if this is the case the money raised will go to a stroke charity for children like Evie.

"I hope that people who know Evie and her family can donate and also those people that are touched by what has happened."

He added: "To find out that within a couple of days of the party she would have suffered a stroke, life is sometimes so cruel, please dig deep for Evie and her family on the journey they have ahead of them."

Following the incident, West Midlands Safari Park staff cared for Evie's siblings Jack and Ava.

A West Midlands Safari Park spokesman said: "We wish Evie a speedy and full recovery."

They added: "We are very lucky to have such well-trained and attentive staff."
