COMIC lovers are set to be disappointed after a planned Comic Con in Worcester, that was set to take place next month, has been cancelled.

Organisers have posted a message on their Facebook page to say the convention, which had been scheduled to be held at University of Worcester's Arena, on Hylton Road, on Sunday, August 19, had been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances".

The first ever comic con event took place at the venue last year and attracted some big names from film and television, including Red Dwarf trio Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn and Hattie Hayridge, and the fifth Doctor Who, Peter Davison.

A massive turn out for this year's event, which was billed as having celebrities, comic artists and memorabilia, was likely after around 3,000 comic book lovers - who dressed up in various outfits of their favourite characters - attended in 2016.

The statement on the Facebook page reads: "It is with a heavy heart the co-owners of Worcester Comic-Con Ltd regretfully have to announce the Worcester Comic Con 2017 will not be taking place.

"We had a successful show in 2016, with fantastic feedback from everyone involved.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances the directors of Worcester Comic Con have had to cancel this year's show."

The event's website had now just been replaced with a further statement, which provides details on how advanced event tickets and photoshoots, and traders who had already paid table money, can get a refund.

An email of info@worcestercomiccon.com is also given.
