RESIDENTS have overwhelmingly voted in favour of a new community hall for Pershore.

Pershore Town Council are proposing to build a new community hall, with 90 percent of those present at a meeting on Tuesday at Pershore Town Hall, agreeing that it was needed.

Visitors voted in favour of a plan to build the hall on town council owned land just off Defford Road ahead of a plan to feature a large hall to be added to the town hall either by remodelling the ground floor or by building a second floor.

Ann Dobbins, town clerk, said: "At a full Town Hall residents heard of the town council’s proposals for a new community hall for Pershore.

"There was overwhelming support for the principle with 90 percent of those present agreeing that such a facility was needed in the town.

"The two options for its location were then outlined by the mayor, Cllr Bob Gillmor, who also showed indicative floor plans for halls at both locations as well as some indication of the cost.

"On a show of hands those present indicated their preference for a new hall to be built on town council owned land off Defford Road.

"Questionnaires are now available for those residents unable to attend the meeting to complete, together with a copy of the presentation slides.

"These are also available on the Town Council web site www.pershoretowncouncil.gov.uk and emailed responses would also be welcome.”
