WORLDWIDE superstar Billy Ocean was the first headliner announced for this year's Concert of Legends event at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

But the late summer concert will certainly live up to its name, with other mega-legends in the mega-line-up including The Boomtown Rats, the Ray Lewis of the Drifters, Odyssey and Paul Carrack.

Billy Ocean is the one of the biggest recording stars that Britain has ever produced; he's someone who has sold over 30 million records in his lifetime.

A spokesman said: "Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records, for whom his second single was the Motown-ish Love Really Hurts Without You, which reached No. 2 in the UK charts and No. 12 in the US.

"Two top twenty singles followed; Love on Delivery and Stop Me, then Red Light Spells Danger became a smash in both the UK and the US, and the rest is history."

Dubbed by the BBC as "The Man with the Golden Voice", Paul Carrack is a key figure in British pop history, an all-rounded musical talent.

The spokesman said: "Across four decades, countless Carrack performances have quietly made their mark on the collective consciousness, including Ace’s How Long, and Mike & the Mechanics’ hit, The Living Years."

The Boomtown Rats might not like Mondays, but they love performing.

The original Rats broke up in 1986, but reformed in 2013, albeit without Johnnie Fingers or Gerry Cott.

Famously, their 1979 single, I Don't Like Mondays', reached number one in the UK and became a worldwide hit.

The Boomtown Rats sang on the Band Aid record Do They Know It's Christmas; and in its first week of release the single became the UK's fastest seller of all time.

Odyssey are one of the most successful soul/disco acts of their era.

Top ten classic hits include Native New Yorker, Use It Up And Wear It Out.

Legend and former lead singer from The Drifters, Ray Lewis, will also take a bow.

A spokesman said : "Ray was originally with The Drifters spanning the period 1980 to 1988, and now recreates that great sound of Motown for which he was famously known for."

The Concert of Legends will take place on Saturday September 9, from 1pm to 11pm.
