A YOUTH centre has taken on a project to get young women into sport.

Ourside Youth Centre in Broadway Road, Evesham has begun an eight week project after some young women commented on their inactivity and presented a desire to get into sport but without the knowledge of what activities are available to them.

Carly Elwell, director at Ourside said: “This programme aims to enable the young people to try various sporting activities that they have not felt comfortable doing previously or alone by creating a supportive and familiar environment for them to attend."

An initial wish list of activities was gathered from the group of participants with a shortlist of six final ones which they will spend the first six weeks trying out a new activity each week.

The final 2 weeks will be spent on the activity voted favourite and a sustainable exit plan developed to ensure the young people are able to continue staying active.

The project has been funded by County Sports Partnership for Herefordshire and Worcestershire with Lottery Funding and is being held at The Health Hub in Evesham.

Ourside Youth Association is a charity ran on donations and grants provided and Ms Elwell will be running the Suffolk off-road ultra marathon at the end of October and the Broadway off-road marathon in November for the charity.
