"THE secret to a happy marriage is trying to sort things out." The advice of 79-year-old Yvonne Mumford, who together with her husband Trevor, are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss.

The couple of Marleigh Road, Bidford, reached their milestone diamond wedding anniversary on September 28, 2017.

They married in St Laurence Parish Church, in Bidford, in 1957 after meeting in The Big Meadow in Bidford-on-Avon more than six decades ago.

Mr Mumford, 81, said: "I met her on Bidford Meadow – all the boys and girls would meet there."

Mrs Mumford said: "It was love at first sight- I was very young when I met him and we have been happy ever since – you can’t say much more than that."

Mr Mumford, from Littleton, was in the RAF for four years before working at Stratford-Upon-Avon Brewery and spend 25 years at firm Precision Antennas in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Mrs Mumford worked at the David Greig egg farm in Wixford.

Mrs Mumford said: "The secret to a happy marriage is trying to sort things out. If you have an argument – set things right.

"We have got to work together."

The couple used to play bowls in Welford-on-Avon and enjoyed going caravaning.

The couple had a big party to celebrate their golden wedding at Welford-on-Avon Bowls Club in Mill Lane.

Mrs Mumford has lived in Bidford most of her life, attending Bidford Infant School and Bidford High School.

To celebrate their anniversary, the couple are having a get-together at the Railway Inn in Defford.

The pair have one son, Paul, and two daughters Corrine and Roselyn, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

They celebrated the day with a card from the Queen.
