ALMOST £300,000 will be invested in new rural projects in the Wychavon area.

Wychavon's Executive Board will consider recommendations from the localism and community funding advisory [anel to invest £288,000 of developer contributions in exciting new rural projects in the Wychavon area.

The recommendations are to allocate £71,310 to enable Badsey Parish Council to build a new play facility on land at Badsey Recreation Club, £8,000 to improve the drainage of the playing fields by Norton Parish Hall and £36,845 to create facilities for older children including a mega swing with basket seat, modular play/fitness trail and a zip wire at Offenham recreation ground.

£115, 855 will also be used to make improvements to the children’s play area in Hartlebury and £56,025 for a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Pebworth.

Cllr. Linda Robinson, leader of Wychavon said “Ensuring that developer contributions are spent wisely and on things that will benefit our communities is really important.

"Play areas and outdoor space for youngsters and families are essential for enjoyment, exercise and wellbeing.

"Maintaining and providing high quality play facilities is something we’re very proud of in Wychavon. We’re pleased to see these recommendations coming forward.”

Section 106 contributions are made by developers when a development is considered to have significant impact on the local community that cannot be accommodated by the existing facilities.

As part of the planning process Wychavon assess and negotiate what additional funding is necessary and work with other partners on how best to spend the money.

In Wychavon, some requests associated with Section 106 funding are considered by the localism and community funding advisory panel and their recommendations are then taken to executive board for approval.

The final decision on these particular recommendations will take place on November 22.
