WYCHAVON District Council’s wellbeing week has been hailed a success.

This October, Wychavon teamed up with more than 15 different organisations across the district for the Wychavon Wellbeing Week.

These organisations included Fortis Living, Rooftop Housing, Worcestershire County Council, WANDS in Droitwich Spa, Pershore Library, Wychavon Leisure and more.

Nearly 100 activities were on offer based around one or more of the five ways to wellbeing, which are: connect; be active; take notice; keep learning; and give.

Activities included health checks and free virtual classes at the Rivers leisure centres, martial arts training, lifestyle yoga and a Tai Chi taster session. Visitors to libraries got arty creating colourful hand prints on a giant map of Wychavon to show how they had been following the wellbeing ways.

There were also opportunities to donate items to Droitwich foodbank and the Worcestershire Homeless Appeal.

Cherrie Mansfield, Wychavon’s Strategy and Performance Manager, who helped to organise the week, said: “The aim of the week, which coincided with World Mental Health Week, was to raise awareness of mental health issues.

"We wanted to show the positive and practical ways that people can improve their wellbeing, whilst also highlighting the support that is available for people experiencing mental health problems.”

Councillor Gerry O’Donnell, who is the health and wellbeing portfolio holder for Wychavon, said: “Improving mental health and wellbeing is a key theme in the Wychavon health and wellbeing plan.

"During the week we wanted to encourage people to take part in different activities, to talk about mental health and to seek information or support if they needed it.

“Highlighting the issues around mental health and raising awareness is not just for one week of the year, however. We must all be open to giving support to those around us who may be suffering with mental health issues.”
