ONE of the oldest UK skydivers will be leaping out a plane to raise money for The Farm Animal Sanctuary in Evesham.

The Farm Animal Sanctuary's founder Jan Taylor will be 14,000 feet over Salisbury plain on Thursday May 10.

At aged 77 she will be one of the oldest people in the UK to skydive.

Funds are needed for the rescue and care of all the animals at the sanctuary that she founded 25 years ago.

She said: "I don't much like flying, I definitely don't like heights, I'll be 78 in a few months time, which is why I've decided to be pushed out of an aeroplane strapped to a fit young man before it's too late and my nerve goes completely.

"I'm doing it because we desperately need extra funds to accommodate our fast growing numbers of ewes and their lambs. Forty rescued ewes taken in last November are all busy lambing.

"We're expecting between seventy and eighty lambs to be born so we need to buy two field shelters so that mum and babies can have their own space and stay together.

"I'm doing this for them, I'm looking forward to a happy landing and a large glass of champagne but most of all to be able to say "we've done it, we've given these animals the comfort they deserve"."

So far, Mrs Taylor is joined by Theresa McGouran and Nicholas Jones from the staff and volunteer team.

The sanctuary are looking to a whole herd of jumpers to join them so if you've ever dreamed of doing a skydive here is your chance and an opportunity to do it at a very reduced charity rate.
