MORE than 20 bags of litter were picked up during a nationwide "Great Plastic Pick Up."
Evesham Town Plan Anti-Litter Group take part in nationwide anti-litter initiative resulting in the removal of 25 bags worth of rubbish from the town’s streets in two hours.
United in their slogan, 'Because Evesham's too lovely to litter', the group of volunteers met at 10am and were joined by three new members before splitting into groups to target grot spots.
These included Battleton Brook and the alleys off Port Street and Badsey Lane lay-by on the A46 bypass, all of which have been targeted before due to high levels of rubbish.
During the pick, the group collected an excessive number of empty beer cans littering the steps at Badsey Lane, where it plans to reduce further littering by implementing a notice with a new litter bin.
A new grot spot was also located on the path from Port Street to Fairwater Close, joining the group's list of target places.
Gerry O’Donnell, Councillor for Wychavon District Council and member of the Town Plan Anti-Litter Group expressed: “I’m so pleased with the progress the Evesham Town Plan Anti-Litter Group has made since they first formed in November 2016.
"In just over 18 months, we’ve collected over 200 bags of rubbish, and a growing number of members of the public willing to give their spare time to caring for their town.”
The Evesham Town Plan Anti-Litter Group was formed in response to The Evesham Town Plan.
