Evesham Festival of Words has been visited by the Book Fairy.

She is an elusive little thing, the only evidence of her is the many and varied books that she leaves at cafes around the town.

Eagle-eyed readers will have already spotted her work at: Port Street’s Moo Moos Cafe, Vine Mews’ JellyPickleJam, High Street’s Delicious and Brew Bear together with Hampton Farm Shop, Ellenden Farm Shop at Harvington and Raphael’s Restaurant.

Sue Ablett, chairman for Evesham Festival of Words, said: “All of the books that the Book Fairy leaves are free to borrow and we hope that people will enjoy a good read and then return the book to one of the cafes for somebody else to enjoy.

“There are all sorts of books: thrillers, classics, romance, humour; the Book Fairy is obviously very well read! There’s no charge, folk can pick up a book, read a few pages as they enjoy their coffee and then either leave it where they found it or take it home with them.”

Evesham Festival of Words has fringe events throughout the year and the main Festival Weekend starts on Friday, June 30, and closes on Sunday, July 2.

This year’s festival opens with a talk by the highly acclaimed author Amelia Dalton. Mistress and Commander is Amelia’s biographical account of her decision to buy and restore an Arctic fishing trawler.

Other weekend events include: Punch and Judy shows, workshops for budding authors and a free open mic session with former Worcestershire Poet Laureate Fergus McGonigal. Asum funny men, Will and John Dallimore make a welcome return to the Red Lion for an hilarious look at the language of Evesham.

The festival weekend also includes a poetry walk and a performance of More Than Words, at St Peter’s Church, Bengeworth, by EODS. The big weekend comes to a close with Giles Shenton, who plays Herbert Pinnegar in the one-man play, Old Herbaceous.
