RESIDENTS of a village are looking for support from surrounding villages to take their charity fundraising efforts past the £50,000 mark with a village fete.

Barton's Village Fete, known as The Riverside Revelry, is to be held at Pilgrim’s Lock on the Avon on Saturday June 16.

It is the latest in a series of charity events organised by the Barton Village Fund (BVF) over the last twelve years in memory of a resident who was diagnosed with cancer and treated by the local Macmillan Nursing Team.

Among the charities which have benefited from total donations so far of £44,600 are Acorns Children's Hospice Trust, The Shakespeare Hospice, Macmillan Nursing, Warwickshire Air Ambulance, Help for Heroes, The Aylesford Cancer Ward and Warwick Hospital.

“Many local people have come to our events before, so they’ll know what fun they are, but we’d like a record attendance this time to get our fundraising total up to £50,000 and beyond,” says Neil Green, chairman of the fete.

“We’re proud of what our little hamlet has achieved over the years, but it’s an effort that has been backed by families from all over the area. It’s a great way to raise money for local charities and have a good day out at the same time.”

The Riverside Revelry is free to enter, and will include displays of Rolls Royce cars, jaguars, and motorcycle sidecars and a dog agility event where owners can put their pets through their paces.

There will be a soap box derby, with contestants invited to build their own go-kart to enter for a fun race for prizes and a tug of war contest.

There’s also singing from the Bidford Area Community Choir, a sports bar, a Pimms Tent with jazz music, and a smoke house grill.

There will be stalls selling children’s books and games, terracotta cookware, and various other items, and a programme raffle with a range of prizes.

The event starts at 1pm and carries on through the afternoon.
