EVESHAM Library was celebrating the success of its Big Wild Read scheme to get youngsters more interested in books and reading.
The library, on Oat Street, was one of many libraries taking part in the county-wide summer reading challenge organised by Worcestershire County Council.
The Big Wild Read aimed to get children reading 6 books and then to be able to answer questions on their content. Worcestershire chairman, John Smith, was on-hand to give out medals of achievement to those successful children who completed the reading challenge, at Evesham Library on Saturday (20).
He said: "It was a privilige to present so many young children with their medals. I believe it is vitally important to encourage our children to use libraries and enjoy reading in an environment which helps them to understand.
"Libraries are not the dark, dingy buildings they once were and children must be encouraged to continue to use and enjoy libraries from an early age - this is not the end but the start of their enjoyment of books. It was also good to see so many parents supporting their children at the awards ceremony."
