Confident Robins hoping to build on fine start to month

7:00am Thursday 6th December 2007

AFTER collecting four points from matches against fellow title contenders Leamington and Chasetown, and not conceding a goal in the process, Evesham United will continue a busy month in confident mood.

The Robins play host to Chesham United at St George's Lane on Saturday (3pm) before a rearranged visit to Bedworth United next Tuesday night.

It's Cinderford Town away on Saturday, December 15 before a home date with promotion rivals Sutton Coldfield Town, who defeated Evesham 3-1 at Coles Lane in August, on December 22.

United's last league game of 2007 is at Malvern Town on Boxing Day (12 noon) before a New Year's Day visit to Bishops Cleeve (3) who did the double over Paul West's men last season.

And, the Robins start the defence of the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup on Tuesday, December 18 when they face Worcester City at St George's Lane.

After a goalless draw at Leaming-ton last Saturday, United won 1-0 at Chasetown on Tuesday courtesy of a 64th minute strike from Mark Owen, his 16th of a profitable campaign.

The scorer had to come off the bench to find the target and manager West will have plenty to ponder ahead of this weekend's match.

He will have to come up with replacements for suspended duo Steve Lutz and Danny Hodnett who will both be back in the squad for the midweek trip into Warwickshire.

"The committee must be grimacing at the budget sheets but I've needed all the players in what has been a busy few weeks with league and cup matches," a realistic West admitted.

"It's always nice to have a strong bench and it worked in our favour on Tuesday when Mark came on and grabbed the winner.

"It was perhaps a good time to catch Chasetown after their FA Cup tie on Sunday and it was great to play in front of such a big crowd. That's what we must aim to do. Charlie (Blake-more) and his team have done a fantastic job and they fully deserved the guard of honour we gave them before the match."
