PLANS to make the 40th anniversary of Pershore Carnival the finest the town has ever seen, are beginning to gather pace.
Pershore Celebrates is the name of this years event which will incorporate the carnival, a green festival and a farmers market all on the same day - Monday, May 26.
Organisers are planning to take the carnival back to its roots by bringing back old favourites such as the town procession, but it is also incorporating a number of new ideas to make the event fresh and vibrant.' Some of these new ideas will include a competition to find a Carnival Princess and a Town Crier, with both winners able to hold their position for a year and be part of town events.
A music concert and skateboarding competition have also been put forward as ideas to be incorporated into the day to ensure the carnival appeals to all ages.
Roy Bayliss, is part of the newly-formed Carnival Committee. He said: "This is going to be a great day out for all the family where people can move from event to event as there is just so much going on.
"We want to keep visitors occupied throughout the entire day with the carnival, green festival and farmers market. It is not just for the people of Pershore though, we want to see lots of faces from the surrounding villages taking part and making it a day to remember."
So far there have been five requests for floats made to Pershore Town Hall and a similar number of entrants to the Carnival Princess competition.
To organise a float for the procession or for more information on the Carnival Princess competition, contact the town hall on 01386 561561.
