ONE market trader was ready and waiting for business as Evesham's Central Indoor Market reopened yesterday (8) for the first time since it closed in December.

Craig Bishop was the only trader working on his stall, called Craig on the Tunes, at the High Street premises yesterday (8) but more were expected to open by Saturday.

The 21-year-old is selling CDs, DVDs, videos, books and computer games and is very keen to establish himself in the town.

Craig, from Drakes Broughton, said: "I am hoping it all goes really well. This is my first time working in a market so it is a new career move for me but I want to see if I can make it on my own."

Traders are operating on short-term, one-month renewable leases while the new owners, Hughes Brothers of Armagh draw up plans for redeveloping the site.

Craig heard about the plans to reopen the market and decided to go for it as he was struggling to find a job as a mechanic. If it all goes well, he is hoping to sign a 12 month contract.

He added: "This was a complete turn of events so I thought I would give it a go. I got as much stock as I possibly could and hopefully it will take off.

"Now I have started I know this is what I want to do and hopefully it will be going for years to come. I've got very high hopes."

Tony Rowland, of estate agents Timothy Lea & Griffiths, which is dealing with the property on behalf of the owners, confirmed last week that a butcher, fishmonger, fruit and vegetable stall, shoe shop and cartridge and inkjet stall will also return to the site. It is understood the Food Hall will open on Tuesday (20).
