BIDFORD's County Councillor Peter Barnes has been elected as vice chairman of Warwickshire County Council.

Cllr Barnes will start his role with the authority on Tuesday (20) and keep the position for one year.

Cllr Barnes said it is the first time a councillor from Bidford has had the position.

"It is a major privilege and quite a honour to be picked," he said. "Someone from South Warwickshire is not usually elected so it illustrates that Bidford is on the map and not second best.

"I am over the moon as it is a great achievement."
