Danger walk warning

THESE teenagers were caught on camera dangerously walking on the edge of the roof of the multi-storey car park at the Riverside Shopping Centre in Evesham.

A concerned member of the public took these pictures on a camera phone on Saturday, June 28 after witnessing them from Abbey Park.

Police have issued a warning about the dangers of climbing on to buildings.

Inspector Steve Brooker, the man in charge of policing in Evesham, said: "These pictures quite clearly demonstrate how dangerous climbing on roofs and buildings is.

"Not only are these youngsters risking serious injury or even death, they are likely to be causing damage to the property.

"I would send a stark warning to anyone considering climbing on buildings - for whatever reason - that this is senseless behaviour and anyone caught in the act will be robustly dealt with by police."

Dave Holland, station manager at Evesham Fire Station, added: "We whole heartedly support the comments made by the police. It is irresponsible for these people to behave in this way where they are putting themselves and others at risk.

"We often get called out in the school holidays where children are in situations they can't get out of and need rescuing, which prevents us attending more serious calls."

A spokesman from the Riverside Shopping Centre said: "The centre manager and her team were unaware people were climbing onto the roof and will give the matter urgent attention and try to establish how they were able to do so in order that preventative measures can be taken to ensure this does not happen again."
