Farm fun for Broadway school children

PUPILS from St Mary's Primary School in Broadway were given an insight into the world of farming and where food comes from during a trip to Snowshill Hill Estate.

Two classes enjoyed a day out at the estate's farm and were given a talk about its wildlife, conservation and environmental schemes.

Cotswold Falconry from Batsford were also on hand to provide a short presentation to the children of some of their birds.

Carl Willn, farm manager, said: "We were very pleased to have the children visit the farm. We wanted to try to give them an insight into farming as it is today and where our food comes from. Also to give the children, teachers and parents a chance to come on to a working farm and see some of the tasks we carry out on a day-to-day basis."

It is the second year the school has visited the estate for a farm trip. Headteacher Jacqui Le Maitre added: "They have all learnt so much, the hands on experiences are very important, and it gives the children the chance to find out more about farming and its future."

A quiz about the day was put together for the pupils to take back to school and finish in the classroom.
