AN EVESHAM dad has raised around £2,000 for charity after taking part in a five-day rally that involved travelling to Germany in a model of car famed for being in a hit 1980's television series.
Karl Taylor, of Birch Avenue, took part in the 2008 Scumball Rally last week and drove from Donnington race circuit to Nurburgring race circuit in a 1984 Pontiac Trans AM - the same model of car that starred as Kit' in Knightrider.
He set off for the rally last Thursday (10) and clocked up just under 1,500 miles by the time he returned today.
Mr Taylor, a quality engineering manager, did the event in aid of the Perthes Association.
His son Max was diagnosed with the potentially crippling disease when he was six years old and consequently spent 18 months in a wheelchair.
He said: "It was brilliant and went really well. I think we have raised awareness of the Perthes Association as there was a lot of media coverage."
Mr Taylor and Team Pontikak won a trophy for their car being the most Scumball like.
The event is loosely based on the Gumball Rally, the world's largest cult car event. But rather than tearing across exotic countries in glamorous vehicles, contestants race in cars worth less than £1,000 for charity.
He added: "I would like to do it again but we will see what happens."
Mr Taylor has not got a final figure of how much he raised yet but is expecting it to be up to £2,000.
