CHILDREN at a village school have been learning how to care for three baby chicks which hatched in their classroom.
The youngsters at Ashton-under-Hill First School had been taking care of the eggs in a specialised incubator for the past month and to their delight the eggs hatched last Thursday (10) leaving them with three fluffy new friends.
Headteacher of Ashton-under-Hill First School, Bryony Baynes explained: "We were given an incubator plus three fertilised eggs. The children watched the eggs very closely for weeks and watched in amazement last Thursday when they hatched.
"They named the first two bubble and squeek but the third chick was really struggling to hatch and we were worried it wasn't going to make it. But it finally made it out and is doing well now.
"We have all got very attached to them and the children will be sad to see them go when we break up for the summer holidays."
Pupils wasted no time in naming the three chicks Bubble, Squeek and Macapaca. Unfortunately, their relationship will be fairly short-lived as Cotswold Farm Park will visit the school today (18) to pick up the chicks to care for them while the pupils go off on their summer holidays Tony Fisher from Cotswold Farm Park said: "We lent the school the incubators and they have looked after the eggs and now the chicks for us. We were delighted to hear that they had hatched and it is a great little project for the children to work on."
