THE Bulldog Bash at Long Marston at the weekend managed to raise almost £4,000 for its adopted charity Help for Heroes.

It was feared the popular biker festival might not go ahead due to police safety concerns after Gerry Tobin was shot dead on the M40 after leaving the event last year.

But organisers were pleased it did after raising £3,800 for the charity which works with injured servicemen.

Ian Baldry, from Fladbury, is the Midlands co-ordinator for Help for Heroes. He said: “Words are not sufficient to express our gratitude for the magnificent support provided by the Bulldog Bash management and of course to the many members of the biking fraternity who so generously donated to this fine charity.

“Many of those in attendance are ex-members of the armed forces and are passionately committed to the welfare of our young servicemen and women.”

Help for Heroes was established last October with the initial aim of raising £6m for the construction of a new hydro-swimming pool and physiotherapy facility to rehabilitate injured servicemen at its base at Headley Court near Epsom.

Ian Baldry was supported at the event by Major Sue Fowler of the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) who has just been appointed as head of physiotherapy at Headley Court.
