RESIDENTS from Durcott Road in Evesham have described the dramatic scenes that unfolded before them when the County Air Ambulance landed on their doorstep to airlift an 11-month-old baby to hospital.

The incident happened on Tuesday (19) afternoon just before 2.20pm when an ambulance was called to a house on the road.

Minutes later the helicopter from Stensham landed by St Peters Close and paramedics rushed towards it carrying the baby girl.

Soon after, the helicopter departed and made its way to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch while the baby’s mother, who is understood to be Polish, followed in a rapid response vehicle.

Distressing scenes were witnessed just 24 hours earlier at around 2.30pm as neighbours heard frantic screams for help from the same house.

Lynne Round, who lives opposite, said: “The mother came running up the road screaming with the baby in her arms shouting at people to call 999. She was patting her on the back so I thought she was choking.”

Claire Newman was getting in her car further up the road as she heard the desperate calls for help and dialled 999.

She said: “I saw the man running up and down the road, knocking on people’s doors yelling to ring an ambulance and the mother had the baby in her arms.

“I dialled 999 and went over and I thought the baby had had a fit as there was a little bit of blood coming out her mouth.

“It was absolutely horrible.”

An ambulance arrived and paramedics gave the baby oxygen. It was believed to have come round before being taken to hospital.
