PUPILS at Honeybourne First School have been enjoying hot meals for the first time in several decades thanks to improved facilities.

The children, aged from four to 10-years-old, have benefited from Blackminster Middle School’s new kitchens which supply hot, freshly cooked meals to its ‘feeder schools’, while Honeybourne School itself have recently extended and refurbished their own kitchens.

Head teacher Elaine Huntingdon said: “Thanks to these developments cooking is now back on the curriculum.

“The pupils are over the moon about it, they love the idea of cooking and have really been enjoying the hot meals and have been eating really well.

“The last time anyone can remember having hot meals here was when one of the secretary’s husbands was here as a child. He is now in his 40s.

“The quality of the food is also great and helps us to promote a healthy eating lifestyle.

“At taster session earlier this month was highly successful and parents had the opportunity to come and try our new meals themselves alongside the rest of the pupils, and they really enjoyed it as well.”
