RESIDENTS at Meade Court Sheltered Housing Scheme in Evesham bid a fond farewell to their scheme manager of 25 years on Friday.
Marion Carr has been the manager at the scheme in Merstow Place for over quarter of a century and it was with a heavy heart that she said goodbye to the friends she has made there during that time.
To mark her departure there was a special dinner at the Old Red Horse pub on Thursday, followed by a coffee morning with a few sherries on Friday.
Mrs Carr is leaving her post as housing associations across the country scrap scheme managers with the new role of community liaison co-ordinator and two specialist teams, one to provide support, the other to do maintenance.
Owners Rooftop Housing Group were unable to provide a reaction to Mrs Carr’s departure however the residents at Meade Court made it clear she will be sorely missed.
Scheme resident Pat Durkam said: “It went very well during the coffee morning on Friday and there were a few tears.
“Marion has said she will try to pop back to say ‘hi’ when she can, but for the older residents when they say farewell it often really is the last time they’ll see them.”

Yarker, UK National says...
2:43pm Sun 12 Oct 08
True this is happening all over the country, with exception of a few dedicated housing providers, such as Housing 21 and The Anchor Housing. Trust. Luckily, for the residents of the latter, their housing providers see it as a duty to provide on-site Wardens in most of their Sheltered Housing, even though they will have to bear the cost of doing so from out of profits. I wonder, could not the Rooftop Housing Group do that ?
What I can tell you is that the withdrawal of Wardens is causing widespread national distress with the residents who moved into Sheltered Housing "because it had a Warden". (some even sold up their properties to do so !)
Both Age Concern and Help the Aged have issued a joint document calling on the Government to urgently look into the underlying reasons for the demise of Sheltered Housing which are vested national budgetary changes.
Make no mistake Sheltered Housing which relies upon mobile staff who also call to other non Sheltered properties is not Sheltered Housing. It differs in no way from any other purpose built OAP
dwelling. Thus,to continue to refer to them as Sheltered schemes once the on-site Warden is withdrawn is stretching the English language to a point where it is becomes meaningless
