AN ordinary night out turned into a gruesome horror story for an Evesham teenager when he became impaled through the groin on metal railings.

Alexander James Jackson, aged 19, was attempting to gain entry to Bushwackers nightclub, Worcester, in the early hours of last Friday morning when the incident occurred.

After being refused entry by door staff, he attempted to scale an 8ft (2.43m) fence to get into the club but slipped and became impaled on the railings through his groin and inner leg.

Paramedics were called to attend the incident and said Mr Jackson had suffered a ‘serious puncture wound and was bleeding heavily’.

After giving him painkillers the paramedics called for backup from the fire service to help cut the metal fence using specialist equipment. Six firefighters lifted an unconscious Mr Jackson down with part of the fence still impaled in him.

Bushwackers doorman John Bradley was commended by the fire service this week for quick thinking that could have saved Mr Jackson’s life. Mr Bradley took off his scarf and used it as a tourniquet to stem the heavy blood flow.

He and manager Mark Humpage also supported the teenager’s weight until emergency services arrived.

Mr Jackson was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance for further treatment for his ‘non-life threatening injuries.’ Mr Jackson is a former pupil of Prince Henry’s High School and is a keen sportsman having represented the school at rugby.

He also plays football in the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League division two for Harvington-based team Golden Cross.

His Facebook page has been inundated with ‘get well soon’ messages from worried friends this week as news of his misfortune became known.
