Actress lends support to eco-town rally

A RALLY to mark the first anniversary since Long Marston was included in the government’s shortlist of potential eco-town sites has been planned along the Greenway this Sunday.

Meeting at the Stratford end of the Greenway, just off Seven meadows Road, at 11am, campaigners will stroll or cycle down the route to Milcote Railway Cafe.

There will be an easter egg hunt for children en route, as well as a quiz for adults.

Refreshments and prizes will be available at the cafe when people arrive.

Dame Judi Dench, a long-standing supporter of the BARD Campaign, has lent her support to the walk despite being unable to attend herself.

She said: “I am sure the day will be full of fun and activity, but never forget that there is an underlying serious message that I hope is heard more widely - that people care about their environment and know what development is needed and where.

“You have my total support, and I hope you all take pride in every step you take.”

BARD’s chairman, David Bliss, said he thought there had been a lot of confusion since the Middle Quinton proposal at Long Marston made it onto the government’s list.

He said: “We are determined that as many local people as possible should show the government what’s at stake here - not least the loss of the Greenway as we know and love it.

“We urge everyone who cares to support the cause and join the walk on Sunday.”
