A DRUNKEN man who sheltered from the cold inside a Worcester police station was then arrested for breaching an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).

Peter Swinbourne has breached the order 10 times. It bans him from being drunk in public, spitting or throwing things and encouraging others to act in a way likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

In the latest incident on Wednesday, March 4, the 37-year-old of Little Priest Lane, Pershore, went into the police station in Castle Street, Worcester, intoxicated and clutching a can of cider.

Sallie Hewitt, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court said Swinbourne was drunk. She said: “He pleaded guilty to the breach in court the next day.

“He now has 10 previous convictions for breaching this order. Most recently, he was jailed for 35 days following a breach and common assault.”

The ASBO order, imposed in June 2006, prohibits Swinbourne from being drunk anywhere in south Worcestershire.

Nick Roberts, defending, said: “Whether or not he addresses his alcohol problem is down to him. He was cold, dispirited and simply went into the police station to keep warm. He didn’t bad mouth anyone and he wouldn’t have been arrested but for this order.” Magistrates sentenced Swinbourne to 16 weeks in prison.
