Supermarket set for £160,000 revamp

PERSHORE’S Somerfield supermarket is to undergo a £160,000 makeover.

The upgrade is part of The Co-operative Group’s rebranding process after they bought the chain’s 900 stores earlier this year. The supermarket will close for the refurbishment at 1pm on Sunday, July 26 and reopen on Thursday, July 30.

Operations manager Rhys Doble said: “We have many loyal Co-operative shoppers and members in and around Pershore and we are delighted to continue serving the community from our new store.

“It will provide the community with a comprehensive range of products and in the best traditions of The Co-operative, will make its contribution to community life.”

Supermarket giant Asda will take over the Co-op’s town centre store after the Office of Fair Trading told it to sell a number of Somerfield branches over competition concerns.

The new Asda will open in August.
