A DEDICATED unit for sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer’s has opened at a Vale care home.
Dignitaries including Pershore mayor Cllr Chris Parsons and Leanne Groutage, Miss Worcester 2009, attended the ceremony at Willow Bank House in Throckmorton last week.
The state-of-the-art unit which provides a safe and homely environment can up to 16 residents round the clock care, as well as diversional therapy treatment which is designed to provoke memory.
Cheryl Dudley, manager of the care home, said the unit had worked fantastically since it became fully operational in March.
“The unit is there to give residents a comfortable and happy lifestyle, and we have constant supervision to help them do that,” she said.
“There is not nearly enough provision for sufferers of dementia and Alzheimer’s in this county. There are other local homes that have something similar but this unit is the first of its kind to focus on being homely.”
