A BIDFORD woman is hoping to hit a high note by setting up a local singing group.
Organiser Amanda Oliver said the idea for the Bidford Area Community Chorus came about as a way of uniting the parish’s six churches.
But the group has now been extended to members of the public with the hope of putting on future productions and public performances in and around the parish.
Mum-of-one Amanda, who spent four years training at the Guildhall School of Music in London, said people of all ages and abilities were welcome to join.
“It’s all about getting people together who want to enjoy making music,” she said.
“There’s no benchmark, nobody’s being targeted. It’s one of those things that will just take on its own energy. People love to do things like singing - we all sing in the shower - and music means a lot to everybody.”
More than 30 people attended the inaugural meeting of the chorus at St Laurence Church on Saturday (4) and plans are now afoot to start weekly rehearsals later this year in September.
Amanda, who recently fought to overcome breast cancer, said she hoped the group would bring the community, which gave her much-needed support in her hour of need, closer together.
“The community was there for me when I needed them,” she said. “So it’s a chance to give something back.”
Anyone interested in joining the Bidford Area Community Chorus or for more information can call Amanda on 01789 772062.
