MORETON Show returned bigger and better than ever after drawing what is believed to be a record attendance on Saturday.

Moreton and District Agricultural and Horse Show Society expressed relief at the success of this year’s show because the future of the annual event, which it organises, was thrown into doubt when torrential rain forced the cancellation of last year’s show.

Vehicles queueing up to enter the showground caused miles of traffic jams in both directions along the A429 Fosse Way.

The traditional country show was held on a new Batsford Road site, 250 yards away from where it is normally staged.

The Society moved the show because the new site is two acres bigger, is more conveniently shaped, is better situated on the watercourse to avoid flooding and only has two sets of power lines running across it, whereas the old site had three.

Show secretary, Tim Gardner, said the official attendance would not be known for some weeks but he added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t a record attendance.”
