A TEWKESBURY couple who based their livelihoods at Evesham’s indoor market were ‘in shock’ after losing virtually everything to burglers.
Amanda Townsend and Tony Bell have been running Town Games from the market for a number of years before burglers struck on Friday, stealing almost their entire stock of three Playstation 3 slimlines, one Xbox 360 elite, a Nintendo DSI, two Nintendo Wiis, a Wii balance board, a gameboy, and more than 60 games and accessories.
The couple estimated the cost of their losses, which were not insured, to be in the region of £3,000.
Amanda said: “My partner, Tony, went down on Saturday to open up as normal when the market manager, Steve Fairbrother, told him he had some bad news.
“We couldn’t believe it. We are still in shock.
“Everything was stored in cabinets but they had snapped all the locks off.
“We normally bring everything home with us, this was the only time we didn’t so someone must have seen me leave without taking it.”
The theft is thought to have taken place sometime between 5pm on Friday, October 30 and 8am on Saturday, October 31.
West Mercia Police confirmed two men were seen on CCTV leaving the indoor market at around the time and hope to issue further information when the footage has been studied in detail.
Meanwhile, anyone who saw anything suspicious in or near the indoor markets in Evesham, or who believes they have been offered any of the stolen items, is urged to call police on 0300 333 3000, quoting 201S/311009.
Police added they believe that most, if not all, of the stolen items will be offered for re-sale in the run up to Christmas and have warned gamers to be wary of offers from unusual sources of new or nearly-new items at greatly reduced prices.
