THE victim of a callous hit and run driver has called for greater safety measures on a Vale road.
Louise Trinder was walking to work along the railway bridge in Briar Close last Wednesday when she was suddenly struck from behind.
“I was in quite a bit of shock, I didn’t have a clue what had just happened,”she said. “I just got myself to the side of the road and stayed there until I could flag someone down.”
An off-duty police officer and a mother and daughter, who heard theimpact, came to the rescue of the 28- year-old who was rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital after suffering grazes and bad bruising to her legs and head.
Miss Trinder, who wants to study counselling at university, feared her injuries could have been worse.
“It was quite a scary thing to go through. I’d like to thank those who came to help me,” said the checkout assistant. “When you’re in that sort of situation, you feel so vulnerable. I just hope the person who did this can live with it.”
Miss Trinder is now calling for Worcestershire County Council to put in place greater speed restrictions on the bridge to avoid similar incidents.
A county council spokesman said: “We continually monitor all of Worcestershire's roads to check the environments are safe for pedestrians and motorists.
At present, there are no additional safety measures planned for this stretch of the road as the information we've gathered does not highlight a particular problem on the highway.”
Police in Evesham are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
