A FEELGOOD theatre classic will take centre stage at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.
Willy Russell’s award-winning Shirley Valentine has been revamped for a new production by the Everyman Theatre Company.
The play, which was made into a hugely successful film starring Pauline Collins, Tom Conti and Joanna Lumley among others, follows the story of down-trodden Shirley who is reduced to talking to the kitchen wall after years of having her confidence shattered by school, marriage and life.
When she wins a holiday to Greece, Shirley takes it as an opportunity to become the kind of person she always wanted to be and develops a sizzling relationship with the seductive taverna owner who helps to reinstate her confidence.
But the new dream life she has found herself soon becomes tainted by the arrival of her repentant husband Joe, who desperately tries to win her back.
Shirley is forced to make the biggest decision of her life.
Shirley Valentine runs at the Everyman Theatre from December 10-19.
Start times are 7.45pm from Monday to Friday and 8pm on Saturdays and matinees are on December 12, 17 and 19.
Tickets cost £7.50 or £6 for concessions and are available from the box office by calling 01242 572573 or visit everymantheatre.org.uk.
