A FLOOD defence scheme in Pershore will still be going ahead despite the Environment Agency altering its plans.
A town council meeting last week outlined the changes to the original application, which had intended to install surface water drainage pumps in Defford Road and Nogains.
The Environment Agency said this option would put pressure on the project’s initial £600,000 budget, and that alterations would need to be made.
Specifically, it was suggested the surface water pump in Nogains should not be built, and instead workmen will increase the size of the channels underneath Bridge Street to allow more water to drain away from the town and back into the river Avon.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are currently making some amendments to our designs for the flood alleviation scheme for Pershore. We will be submitting an amendment to the planning application over the next month or so, and hope to start work on the scheme early in the new year.”
Town clerk Ann Dobbins said: “Provided everything goes according to plan, the defences should be ready to protect against river flooding of more than 60 houses in Pershore in time for next winter.”
