LEGENDARY 60s pop star, Paul Jones, will rock ‘n’ roll into Pershore’s Number 8 next month.
The Manfred Mann star will perform hits including Doo Wah Diddy Diddy and Pretty Flamingo, as well as new arrangements of jazz and blues standards from the likes of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, for his show, Rockin’ in Rhythm.
Not content with conquering the pop scene, Paul also went on to have great success starring in West End musicals and presenting his own programme on BBC Radio 2.
Now he showcases both his powerful singing and virtuoso blues harmonica in this show, accompanied by Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen.
Their George Melly collaboration, Singing and Swinging the Blues was voted The Observer’s record of the week and since its debut in 2007, Rockin’ in Rhythm has sold out repeatedly at world renowned London Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott’s, as well as topping the bill at other major clubs, theatres and festivals across the UK.
Paul said: “When I first teamed up with Digby in 2007 I thought ‘this gives me the chance to sing all those great jazz standards I love’, while thinking ‘this gives me the chance to play all that rock music I used to love back in the 1960s and after’!”
Digby added: “Rockin’ in Rhythm brings you a non-stop show which will appeal to every audience.”
Following the success of the live show, plans are now in the pipeline to record a Rockin’ in Rhythm live album which is due out next year.
Tickets to the concert on January 16 are £17.50 and to book call the Number 8 box office on 01386 555488. For more details visit number8.org.
