PERSHORE’S Rotary Club has raised £2,100 in support of this year’s End Polio Now campaign.
The local club joins other Rotary clubs throughout the world after the organisation pledged to raise $200m during the next three years to match a grant of $350m given by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The money will be used to finally eradicate polio through an immunisation programme in the four countries in which the disease still exists - Northern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.
Cairns Boston, president of Pershore Rotary Club, said: “We have set a target of £3,800 over three years, and have reached more than 50 per cent of this in the first year.
“We would wish to thank all those local people who have donated to this cause.”
