A WOMAN stole perfume and meat to please her controlling partner, a court was told.

Michelle McDonnell stole £99 of perfume from Boots in Worcester and was arrested but on her release she went into Marks & Spencer and stole £96.25 of meat.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said on both occasions on Tuesday, October 19, she was spotted by security guards.

McDonnell, aged 31, of Battleton Road, Evesham, admitted two counts of theft when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Mark Turnbull, defending, said McDonnell was in a controlling relationship and stole to please her partner.

“The fact is she came to this country from Zimbabwe and has since stayed, but she has never been able to secure a National Insurance number,” said Mr Tunbull.

“She has three children and lives with her partner, who is British. He has a controlling influence – she doesn’t go to steal for him, she does it as a way to please him.”

Sentencing was deferred until Friday, January 14. During that time McDonnell must stay out of trouble or face custody.
