A FORMER Mayor of Evesham has paid tribute to his late wife, saying her death had ‘left a big hole’ in his life.

Carolyn Booth, the wife of councillor Alan Booth, who was Mayor of Evesham between 2007 and May 2010, died overnight last Tuesday.

Coun Booth said that his wife, who was 56, had always been at his side on important engagements during his time as Mayor and enjoyed the various responsibilities which came with her role.

“She was brilliant; a great girl. When I first became Mayor she was a bit reluctant in her role but she soon threw herself into it and enjoyed it very much. She made a lot of friends and people knew they could talk to her; she always made herself available for people,” he said.

Coun Booth said his wife was a great animal lover and would happily look after other people’s pets such as dogs and parrots when asked. She was also a talented artist when she found time to work alongside her main role of publican at The Eagle Vaults with her husband.

Coun Booth added that he had received a great deal of support since his wife’s death. “My customers and councillors have been great. I hope all the people who knew Carolyn will come along to her funeral,” he said.

Mrs Booth had one son with Coun Booth, Wayne, and had suffered bronchial issues before her death. Her funeral will take place on Monday at St Peter’s Church in Bengeworth at 1.30pm.
